This is a nice featured Quake 2 source port with a good set of visual effects including particle systems, underwater caustics, wall decals, very realistic blood splashes, sky glares and dynamic shadows.

Installation instructions:
- Download port archive and unpack it to your Quake 2 directory ('E:\games\quake2' in my case).
- Start 'quake2max.exe' from the same directory.
- Open 'Video'->'System' from main menu.
Set appropriate 'Video mode', select 'Trilinear' for 'Texture filter', set the highest 'Texture quality' and turn on 'Sync every frame'.
- Open 'Video'->'Advanced'. Ensure that 'Shaders' are turned on, set 'Screen glares' to high and turn on 'Sky glares' and 'Shell glares'. Turn on 'Overbrights' and set 'Transparency' to 'by depth w/ surfaces'. You can also try to play with 'Celshading', but I personally rather not use it.
- Open 'Video'->'Miscellaneous'. You can try to turn on the 'Shadows' here, but on my hardware the shadows often produced some heavy visual artifacts, so I don't advise to use it with this port.
- Open 'Options'->'Sound'. Set 'Sound Quality' to 'High (44khz 16bit)' and select 'Max perfomance' for 'Sound compatibility'.
- Open 'Options'->'Controls'. Ensure that 'Free Look' and 'Always run' are turned on. You can also adjust 'Mouse Speed' here.
- Open 'Options'->'Controls' and select 'Customize controls' to customize keyboard settings.
- Open 'Options'->'Misc'. You can change a default crosshair here.

Very good port for quake 2, best with hi-res textures unfortunately I didn't found full hi-res textures pack for quake 2(only for first hub)

I did like this one very much, too. I'm looking for a good Quake2 re-texturing project at the moment, and I just can't choose, which one is the most advanced/recent/full, because there are dozens of them. I'm planning to cover this in the nearest future.
