The BeefQuake is a Quake II source port that supports the improved water texture rendering, smooth motion blur for Geforce-compatible video cards, stencil buffer shadows for monsters and objects, improved particle systems rendering and more complex lightning/shading rendering system.

Installation instructions:
- Download and unpack the "bqr5.zip" archive to the directory with Quake 2 game files (this was 'E:\games\Quake II' in my case)
- Download and unpack the "beefquake.newest.exe.zip" archive with the latest BeefQuake executable to the same directory, overwriting the executable file.
- Start the 'beefquake.exe' and exit. This is needed to create a 'bqconfig.cfg' file, which is automatically generated at start up.
- Open the 'bqconfig.cfg' file with any text editor and ensure that the following valuesare set:
- set gl_motionblur "1"
- set gl_stainmaps "1"
- set gl_shadows "2"
- set gl_shading "1"
- Run the 'beefquake.exe' to start the game.
Most of the options are the same as in the original Quake 2, so there should not be any problems with them. Check the 'Video' menu to set the optimal video resolution and visit 'Options'->'Customize controls' to adjust the keyboard settings.
Although you shouldn't expect anything extraordinary from this source port, it's definitely worth a try, especially if you have a video card with a motion blur support.
This port is not capable of Hi-Resolution textures support. It does load the textures, but the texture sizes are all wrong, making the visual look all absurd.

Yes it's a shame that the hi res textures wont work, I have just tried.
What are the best textures to use with BeefQuake?
And where do we get em?
