There is no transparent water in original Quake engine, so the info required for making the water transparent is missing in original Quake resource files. The VIS Patch program attaches all required transparency data to the Quake's map files, thus making the transparent water rendering possible for the modern Quake engines.

Usage Instructions:
- Download 'vispatch-1.4.5.tgz' and unpack it to the 'ID1' folder in original game files ('E:\games\quake\ID1' in my case).
- Download 'id1_vis.tgz' and unpack it to the same 'ID1' folder ('E:\games\quake\ID1' in my case).
- Rename the 'id1.vis' file to the 'vispatch.dat'. The resulting file structure should be somewhat the same as on the following screenshot:
- Start vispatch.exe.

I'm afraid to say that my 1D1 folder isn't that empty. Also, some of the files are missing out of you downloads.

ID1 folder can also contain all kind of mods and addons.
I've prepared an example only for classical Quake1 levels, so you should search for additional VIS data if You are using some addons.
Also, what files have been missing from downloads?
